Personal identification number (PESEL)

The PESEL number is a unique 11-digit personal identification number. It is assigned to Polish citizens as well as to foreigners when they register their residence. Possessing a PESEL number is not obligatory for foreigners. However, in practice, having a PESEL number can facilitate many things in Poland, such as opening a bank account.

Health insurance

If you do not have health insurance, you run the risk of serious problems: Health insurance or confirmation of coverage of medical costs by a health insurance provider is required not only when entering Poland and applying for a temporary residence permit but also during the entire stay of a foreigner in Poland. Bank account

If you plan to stay in Poland for an extended period, it is worth considering opening an account with a local bank. This will definitely help you with many everyday matters, such as paying bills or shopping (as most stores accept card payments). If you start work, your employer will transfer your salary to your bank account.

You can easily and quickly open a bank account in Poland. Don’t forget to take your student ID card and passport with you.
