Tym razem zaproszenie do wygłoszenia wykładu przyjął dr Panayiotis Xenophontos (Oxford University). Tytuł wystąpienia: "Przemyśl in 2022: Observations from the Polish-Ukrainian Border"

"During the first six months of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, I spent two months working as a volunteer at Przemyśl train station, Poland. This paper will highlight my main observations from my time on the Polish-Ukrainian border. These observations will be grouped up into two categories: refugee experiences, and volunteer experiences. In the first category I will discuss experiences related to me by those fleeing Ukraine, the ways refugees interacted with the train station and the town of Przemyśl at large, and the languages spoken and used by refugees encountered. In the second category I will explore issues of identity experienced by volunteers: where did they come from and why were they there? In the concluding remarks I will discuss the future trajectories of refugees and volunteers I met in Przemyśl. This paper emphasises the importance of looking at case studies of individual public spaces when researching and documenting the human experiences of the invasion".

 

Dr Panayiotis Xenophontos is a Lecturer in Russian at Oxford University. He teaches Russian-language Literature from the early 19th century to the present. He holds a BA, MSt, and DPhil from Oxford University. Panayiotis is currently completing his first monograph on the Russian-language poet Joseph Brodsky (1940-1996). In addition, he has recently commenced two new research projects. The first is a cultural history of the Greeks of Ukraine from the time of Catherine the Great to the present. The second is a new biography of the writer, and Gulag survivor, Varlam Shalamov (1907-1982).
