Infrastructure

The University of Lower Silesia DSW is consistently taking steps to remove architectural barriers in its buildings. The University's main office at 55 Strzegomska Street (including the catering facility) is equipped with adapted ramps for accessibility, a lift with voice announcements, toilets adapted for persons with disabilities (PWD), and all doors have informative Braille signs. There is also a stairlift in the building.

 

ul. Strzegomska 47:

  • lift (without voice information)
  • a wheelchair ramp at the main entrance, a crawler at the second entrance
  • colour coding of stairs, entrances and doors to rooms
  • in one room there is a workplace for PWD (height-adjustable desk, additional lamp with magnifying glass), in the same room there is an induction loop installed
  • in the car park designated places for PWD
  • toilet for PWD
  • Braille plates on each door, next to the handle, with a description of the room
  • roller blinds installed on windows in each room

ul. Wagonowa 1:

  • induction loops in both rooms (11 and 20)
  • Braille signs next to the door handle describing what room/room it is
  • No ramps
  • No lift

Equippment

The computer rooms are equipped with workstations adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. There is also a bookmobile in the main building. Much of the equipment that makes work easier for people with disabilities is located in the library.

Here is a list of equipment available to the library:

  • TOPAZ Freedom Scientific Magnifier, which allows the visually impaired to read fine text.
  • Creative Pen Tablet for creating computer graphics.
  • Computers to assist readers with disabilities, along with headphones.
  • Keyboards with large letters.
  • Large colour mice.
  • Computer desk designed for wheelchair users.
  • Large monitor.
  • Electronic desks with height-adjustable tops for certain people. 2
  • Lamps with high magnification glass to enable people with low vision and visual impairments to read text on a small laptop screen (magnifying glass with lamp).
  • Readers for users of online versions of books.
  • New generation black and white and colour readers for e-book reading and online access.
  • Access to the ebookpoint BIBLIO.
  • Nearly 400 books purchased from the Fund of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education to create conditions for the full participation of students and postgraduates with disabilities in the educational process.
  • Books in Braille.

The library has an assistant for people with disabilities.
